Inaugurated in March 2021, Westfield Mall of the Netherlands – a unique, innovative shopping, dining, leisure and entertainment destination – represents the culmination of years of work by our Dutch teams, and a significant change to the local retail landscape in Leidschendam. From brunch to shopping, from a movie to extensive dining – experience is at the heart of every visit. The destination is completely different from other shopping centres in the Netherlands, partly due to the arrival of various flagship stores, plus the high-quality architecture, distinctive catering establishments, special events and the wide range of leisure options.

URW invested over €600 million to transform the outdated shopping centre into a state-of-the-art, iconic destination of 117,000 m², providing five-star service standards. Westfield Mall of the Netherlands therefore becomes the first all-encompassing shopping experience of its size in the Netherlands: a unique, innovative shopping, dining, leisure and entertainment destination.

State of the art design

The shopping centre's impressive interior and exterior architecture, designed by MVSA Architects, is defined by movement. The façade is inspired by a silk scarf which, draped like a second skin, unites the new and existing buildings. The interior design is a modern reinterpretation of a classic shopping street, creating an intimate atmosphere cherished by customers.

The prominent centrepiece of the dining and entertainment plaza, the “Eat Theater”, is the elegant golden ceiling-feature decorations, which makes it a must-see. The 30 golden curtains consist of no less than 12,251,200 links and have a total surface of 3,020 m² – in other words, a 235 km chain, approximately the distance between The Hague and Maastricht.

The best of shopping, leisure and dining

Ranging from a selection of leading brands to local entrepreneurs and start-ups, “The Gallery” is definitely a revolutionary concept in the Dutch retail world, offering an attractive and unexpected mix of designer and lifestyle boutiques.

Westfield Mall of the Netherlands offers a wide range of taste and flavours within its Food & Dining offer. The brand new “Eat Theater” features a mix of 10 local and well-known restaurants, including The Butcher and pizza hotspot Toni Loco, alongside other kiosks and coffee shops. A FRESH! food market will continue to set the centre as the regional destination for food and shopping.

Last but not least, Westfield Mall of the Netherlands sets the bar high in terms of unprecedented experiences, with the opening of an 11-screen Kinepolis cinema, an O'Leary’s that features a bowling alley, a Gamestate arcade and the unique Instagram museum concept, Youseum.
