Organising safe spaces
The COVID-19 lockdown unfortunately meant that some vulnerable women and children found themselves in a domestic abuse situation with nowhere to go.
With space available, the URW team in France realised that they could support women’s rights organisations by opening “safe spaces” in eight of our destinations: Aéroville Tremblay-en-France, Villeneuve 2, Westfield Carré Sénart, La Part-Dieu Lyon, Westfield Forum des Halles, Les Ulis, Westfield Les 4 Temps and So Ouest.
We worked with the Minister of State for Gender Equality to create safe, accessible facilities for organisations fighting domestic abuse and violence against women, many of whom were struggling to reach the populations in need that they usually support.
Adapting our resources to help our communities in a time of need is an initiative in line with our commitment to building better places for all.
