URW innovates with smart, last-mile delivery concepts

Our teams innovate continuously to provide additional services for visitors and support retailers as they expand their reach. Below, find initiatives from 2021 that open up new and innovative click and collect services for visitors.

Launch of La Station Colis@Westfield in France, an innovative parcel-pickup system

The Station Colis@Westfield revolutionises click and collect by allowing, for the first time in France, the collection of small parcels, bulky items and food products in one place. This automated station, accessible seven days a week and 24 hours a day, is the result of a partnership with the FM Logistic company.

Three different types of robotic lockers are available to collect all kinds of parcels in just 15 seconds:

  • A robotic pick-up tower that can accommodate up to 300 standard parcels with adjustable-size lockers to optimise storage space.
  • 12 lockers dedicated to oversized parcels (such as washing machines, ovens or bicycles), which previously could not be delivered via click and collect.
  • 124 specific lockers for food products, whether fresh or frozen – a first in Europe!

The Station Colis@Westfield meets the needs of consumers who want to combine convenience and flexibility in receiving all their parcels in one place they frequently visit, while offering a more sustainable response to environmental issues, compared with home deliveries.

In addition to Westfield Vélizy 2 tenants such as Auchan, Cdiscount and Relais Colis also signed up as our first partners, positioning this cutting-edge service as a truly innovative last-mile logistics solution. We look forward to deploying this service in our other assets, soon.

Station Colis@Westfield was inaugurated in the presence of URW Chief Customer Officer Caroline Puechoultres, Director of PMPS France & Europe and Shopping Center Experience Europe Alexis Veron and Westfield Vélizy 2 Shopping Centre Manager Jonathan Toulemonde.

LAX launches NomNom, the LAX order-now robot ambassador

At LAX, Los Angeles International Airport, we continue to tap into new technology and innovation to elevate the overall visitor experience. One recent example is NomNom, a cargo robot that can carry up to 40 pounds of food. NomNom is programmed to accompany waitstaff at LAX, as they deliver food to hungry travellers. The robot can move at speeds of 6 mph and uses a series of cameras and sensors to recognize and follow its handler throughout the airport. NomNom is a collaboration between URW and our partners at Los Angeles World Airports, Servy, and AtYourGate.

NomNom’s debut follows the launch of LAX Order Now, in May 2021. The service enables contactless order, payment and delivery of food from restaurants throughout the LAX terminals directly to a traveller’s gate. Guests can scan QR codes throughout terminals or visit LAXOrderNow.com to browse menus, place an order and pay. Delivery is available for an additional fee. Guests receive an estimated delivery time and are notified on their mobile device when orders are on their way and when they arrive in the designated gate area.

Expanded partnership with Servy

In November 2021, URW announced a strategic alliance with Servy, a cutting-edge, digital self-service platform for the hospitality industry. The partnership builds on previous collaboration with Servy in 2020, when we jointly developed a contactless digital fulfilment experience at select airports within our portfolio, allowing travellers to order food and retail goods from a mobile device without needing to download an app.

The new partnership will focus on the expansion of best practices already learned at URW terminals at LAX, Chicago O'Hare and Miami International, while leveraging our global footprint, expertise and relationships with leading brands and retail innovators to benefit all stakeholders across the Grab Airport network.

Moving into the future, URW and Servy will also explore the application of the technology and digital hospitality experience at URW’s network of flagship shopping and lifestyle destinations.
