Street art took over the walls at Aéroville for a one-of-a-kind contest last winter, showcasing the vibrant local art culture. Amateurs were invited to share their passion and demonstrate their creativity alongside nine renowned street artists, resulting in unique and inspiring collective art pieces.

The Fukami exhibition welcomed 37,000 visitors at Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild last summer. Featuring art installations, paintings and Japanese prints, the collection took guests on a journey through Japanese refinement. Organised by the Viparis Event Lab, the exhibition was one of the many cultural events and initiatives held in Paris this year as part of Japonismes 2018, celebrating 160 years of Franco-Japanese friendship and showcasing the beauty of Japanese culture.

Westfield UTC and The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) have partnered to showcase works from the museum’s permanent collection for a multi-year exhibition at our San Diego flagship shopping centre. The Fashion District was launched in East London in September, to make it the global capital of fashion technology. Westfield Stratford City is a partner in the project alongside the London College of Fashion, the University of the Arts London, the British Fashion Council (BFC), the Mayor of London, the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC), and other local organisations. The Fashion District will drive growth in creative industries and skills, generating more than 15,000 new jobs in the industry in East London and will create a world-leading hub for fashion education, design, manufacturing and innovation.

In Bratislava, Aupark hosted the Alexander McQueen exhibition, turning one of the centre’s iconic shopfronts into a unique fashion theatre. On Halloween Eve, Westfield Century City hosted The Style of Scare! in partnership with the hit FX television series, American Horror Story: Apocalypse, and the 21st Costume Designers Guild Awards. Acclaimed costume designers Lou Eyrich and Paula Bradley, along with actresses Leslie Grossman and Adina Porter, gathered to discuss the magic of storytelling through costume design. Costumes from the show were on display to allow guests the opportunity to take a closer look.

The Designer Gallery at Mall of Scandinavia hosted the world premiere of the Lars Wallin Couture Collection, created by Sweden’s most famous international fashion designer. Chicago O’Hare’s Terminal 5 hosted the second annual Fashion Packed Challenge in which fashion design students from Chicago’s Columbia College competed to upcycle used airline materials into wearable garments.

Inspired by the great gourmet centres of the world, Fresh! is a local food market encompassing more than 2,500 sqm which combines the best high-street food concepts with engaging gastronomic activities. In the fall, Southern California foodies were invited to celebrate TASTE with an epicurean extravaganza, from culinary events to food crawls and food fests. Westfield Century City, Westfield Santa Anita and Westfield Topanga & The Village offered must-try food experiences, featuring samplings from the centres’ best restaurants, chef experiences, wine and spirits tastings, live entertainment and more.

Located within Ateliers Gaîté in the Montparnasse district of Paris, the Food Society will be the largest food court in Europe and a future culinary hotspot for Paris, with 35 restaurants and bars across close to 5,000 sqm. From France to Poland, La Part-Dieu and Arkadia hosted Dior Backstage, the spectacular roadshow promoting the new Dior makeup line. Over four days, visitors were invited to discover new Dior Backstage products and take part in a unique experience, including meeting with makeup artists to learn professional beauty techniques and receive a personalised look before hitting the photo studio for souvenir.

Passage Piéton and Viparis created Jardin Suspendu, an ephemeral hanging garden perched above a parking garage rooftop in Paris. Spread over 500 sqm, it was the largest green rooftop in the French capital, attracting more than 160,000 Parisians of all ages during the summer. The space also served as a unique touchpoint for brands to showcase themselves and host events.

In September, local gamers participated in Westfield Topanga's first Fortnite Fridays gaming event, attracting hundreds of participants and spectators. It was then Donau Zentrum’s turn to host the Austrian Electronic Sport Festival in its Cineplexx in October, attended by 2,500 visitors. In Denmark, Fisketorvet held its first ever Game Week, dedicated to many favourite e-games such as FIFA, Just Dance and Fortnite. Meanwhile, in Spain, a thousand gamers competed in a giant Clash Royale tournament at La Maquinista.

Donau Zentrum hosted a week-long acrobatics event in partnership with Cirque du Soleil. In addition to enjoying the show, children had the opportunity to learn basic acrobatics, participate in workshops, get circus-style makeup, and create drawings inspired by the performance.

We partnered with Disney to celebrate Mickey Mouse’s 90th anniversary. Visitors of all ages were invited to discover and rediscover the Disney magic through a series of unique events in 18 of our European shopping centres, including a special treasure hunt and a lottery with Mickey-themed prizes. Six destinations – Les 4 Temps, Metropole Zličín, Centro, La Maquinista, Mall of Scandinavia and Donau Zentrum – hosted a special Mickey Celebration for the most iconic mouse in the world, with over 26,000 happy visitors.FIND OUT MORE

In November, Westfield London hosted the European premiere for The Nutcracker and the Four Realms – Disney’s latest holiday super production – at Vue cinema. The film’s stars attended, including Mackenzie Foy and Keira Knightley. In December, the shopping destination partnered with leading experiential company Bompas and Parr to create an immersive event inspired by the movie in which visitors were able to travel through all four of the film’s magical universes. From the candy-themed Land of Sweets to the mysterious circus realm, this half-hour experience was the perfect way to make the magic last.

In keeping with the Disney theme, Centrum Černý Most celebrated the start of the holiday season with a spectacular Nutcracker-themed event in November. More than 2,500 visitors gathered for an outdoor figure skating show. The marching band then walked through the centre, leading visitors to the Nutcracker castle on Central Plaza for an exceptional ballet performance.
